Personal Interviewing

Personal interviews are a powerful way of understanding consumer views. The main advantage of personal interviewing over other methods is that respondents can be shown visual information within a controlled environment.

The ability to show visual information can reduce respondent confusion when describing past behaviour — such as what issue of a magazine was read or what flavour of a product was purchased — because they are shown an example. It also allows detailed information to be conveyed when describing a new product or service concept — since considerable information can be listed on a concept board and images can also be presented.

TNS Canadian Facts is one of the few research companies remaining in North America to offer a permanent and fully-trained personal field force. More than 350 interviewers are directed by 17 field supervisors across Canada.

All our external supervisors are retained to work exclusively for TNS Canadian Facts. Seventy percent of them, and approximately 50% of interviewers, have been with the company for five years or longer.

With these unparalleled resources, we are able to conduct personal interviewing projects of any size and scope, whether it involves exit intercepts of visitors to an event or a door-to-door, probability sample of Canadians.
